Serre PV power station is constituted of nine electrically independent modular segments of 330 kW each, assembled on freestanding fixed structures with a 20° tilt angle and a tenth segment installed on a tracking structure rotating on a horizontal axis. Here  the performance indices of the first nine segments are analyzed.

The construction of the first nine segments of Serre power station was completed in 1994 and operation started in early 1995. During this year experimental data have shown a plant non-availability of about 33 % due to the time spent to adjust the inverters with respect to frequent disturbances of the medium voltage local grid. In consequence, low annual values of both performance ratio (0.47) and daily final yield (2.18 kWh/kW) were obtained in 1995.

During 1996 to 1999, the distribution of plant non-availability has ranged from 2.5 % to 5.3 %, because of some inverter outages due to filtering system, thyristors and input capacitors failures. In this period the plant showed good annual values of both performance ratio (0.66 - 0.68) and annual final yield (3.1 kWh/kW – 3.3 kWh/kW). Moreover the PV arrays confirmed to be the most reliable components during 1996 - 1999.

During the last years, inverter failures have strongly decreased and in the year 2000 no system outages occurred. For this reason the design values of annual performance ratio (0.7) and annual final yield (3.3 kWh/kW) were confirmed by the experimental values obtained in 2000.
