The picture above shows a single family dwelling in the Netherlands with solar panels and photovoltaic modules on the roof. The house and the solar systems have been built in 1993. The designer's intention was to cover the thermal and electrical energy consumption on an annual basis. The PV system consists of 64 modules with a total nominal peak power of 3.3 kW and two d.c./a.c.inverters with a nominal power of 1.5 kW each. The roof is south oriented and has a tilt angle of 45 degrees. During the monitoring period from mid 1994 until end 1996 the PV system with respect to PV energy production has performed according to expectations. The production of solar electricity however was not sufficient to cover the annual electricity consumption completely. Annual solar coverage factors of 76 % and 97 % were measured for two complete calendar years.
